Patas monkeys (Erythrocebus patas) has a wide distribution across sub-Saharan Africa from Senegal to Kenya. They live mainly in grass savanna, dry and dense woodlands with tall grass, since they are predominantly terrestrial. The Patas can also tolerate arid conditions. They are omnivorous that collect food mainly on the ground and consume fruits, leaves, tree gum, but also small animals like lizards, eggs, insects etc’.
The Patas monkeys are sociable animals, they found in troops of between 10 and 40 members with only one older, dominant male and the rest being females with their young. The troops are led by the females who protect their home ranges from intrusion by other troops.
