Zanzibar- old city
Zanzibar is a small island on the east coast of Africa, and part of Tanzania. On the 19th century the island was leading producer of Vanilla and cloves, but its main export was slaves. The trade was so successful, that the inhabitant of the island got very rich. The richness was invested in big, 3 stories houses, made of stones, which was unusual in that part of Africa, where houses are built from mud. That is how the main town on the island got the nickname ‘stone town’. The population of Zanzibar is mostly Muslims.
