Zagora, The starting point of the caravan route
Zagora, Morocco, caravan, Sahara,

It is exciting to stand at  Zagora, Morocco, a huge oasis in  the desert, created by the river Draa, and think that this is where, for centuries, camels caravan started and ended the cross of the harsh Sahara desert. The Caravans were organized by Arabs, and the navigators were the Tuareg, the desert people.  The Caravans used to carry mostly salt into the Sahel kingdoms, and exchanged it with gold that was mined in (what is today) Mali and Ghana, slaves etc’.
