Secretary bird

Secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius) is the only bird in the raptor family, which spend its time on the ground (although nesting on top of Acacia trees), and look for its food on the ground. They can catch snakes, lizards, mice, insects,  and once I sew a secretary bird trying to kill hare!

Walking always in pairs, male and female looks alike.

They got the funny  name  due to the 3/4 black ‘pants’ they ‘wear’, like the British secretaries in the oldies. Add to it the black feathers on their head, which used to be use as quills, and it is all clear..
